Anyone and everyone may take part in #FitBlog Chats! Don’t be fooled by the name — you don’t have to be fit or even have a blog. You just have to have a Twitter account (free to sign up on Twitter.com) and be ready to have a lot of fun. The chats are for people who are already involved with health and fitness or those who want some inspiration to make a few healthy changes. It doesn’t matter how big your Twitter community is or what you do for a living — if you come with an open mind, you’ll find a place at #FitBlog Chats.
#FitBlog Chats are lightly moderated/curated discussions on topics including health, fitness, blogging and social media. They are led by a rotating list of moderators and take place once a week using the Twitter.com platform. In addition, the #FitBlog hashtag may be used anytime to share posts or links, ask questions or find new friends during the week!
#FitBlog Chats take place on Tuesday nights from 9-10 p.m. ET.
There are several ways to participate in #FitBlog Chats. The easiest method is to go to the “Chat Live” tab of the FitBlogChats.com website, where you’ll be directed to sign in to your Twitter account using the OAuth verification tools. Once signed in, your tweets will be in the normal public stream, but while on the page, you’ll only see tweets that include the #FitBlog hashtag. The Chat Live tool acts as a filter, only showing tweets that are relevant to the chat. The tools also allow you to see another participant’s profile, reply to or RT a tweet and give a “thumbs up” to mark something as a favorite.
Are you into health and fitness? Do you want to be? Each week, hundreds of people from all around the world, of all different ages, backgrounds and life goals come together for an hour to share their thoughts, ask questions, offer advice and encourage each other. So why participate? You’ll gain new friends (or blends, as we call them — for blogging friends), get new ideas for health and fitness and maybe even pick up some tips and tricks for blogging!
The Chat Live page of FitBlogChats.com uses the Twitter.com platform and OAuth verification tools. That means that when you log in with your Twitter credentials, you will be signed in to Twitter.com and your tweets will be visible in the normal Twitter stream. However, the page uses special filters to exclusively show tweets that include the #FitBlog hashtag. You will still have the standard tools that Twitter offers, including the ability to reply or RT, as well as the option to view a participant’s Twitter profile.
Chats are archived on the Chat Archive page of FitBlogChats.com. You can also find embed tools to post parts of the #FitBlog Chats on your own blog or website. Moderators and topics/agendas are also listed on the Archive page.
The #FitBlog Chats use the Twitter.com platform, sometimes known as micro-blogging, to power the live functionality of the chat. In order to have your tweets included in the chat, you need to be signed in to your Twitter account. #FitBlog Chats uses the OAuth functionality to safely and securely allow you to log in (see much more on OAuth here).
If you’re interested in becoming a moderator for the #FitBlog Chats, please review the responsibilities on the Moderators page. Then send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject “Moderator Request.”
The #FitBlog Chats have long been independent of sponsorship or branding, in the interest of having a discussion where people can be honest, open and unsolicited. However, if you have a unique idea for letting the participants know about a product or a project you have, send an email to email@example.com with the subject “Sponsorship Request.”
#FitBlog Chats tackle new topics and are hosted by different moderators each week. So come whenever and however often your schedule allows! If you miss a chat and want to catch up, you can head to the Chat Archive page.
Currently, #FitBlog Chats happen on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET, although the hashtag is used through the week by people who want to share posts and ask questions. But if you’re interested in organizing #FitBlog Chats on a different day or time, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
